CLEMSON COMPOSITES CENTER, (CCC) is where innovation comes to life. Lightweight and advanced materials are crucial to a sustainable and efficient future, and CCC has the tools, expertise and drive to get us there.
WHO WE ARE
Founded in 2015, CCC is a full-spectrum research and development facility with state-of-the-art equipment and infrastructure on the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) campus in Greenville, South Carolina.
By partnering with industry, the Center aims to develop and commercialize cost-effective, sustainable lightweight material technologies from fundamental research to the manufacturing floor.
WHAT WE DO
Capabilities encompass a wide range of applications, from material synthesis and characterization to engineering and manufacturing services.
Ongoing projects run the gamut from fundamental science to translational projects, all driven by industry need for a more sustainable future.
The Center offers application engineering, full-scale prototyping and short-volume production runs for advance composites and polymer components.
Assist in the composition, development, and technical aspects of production to eliminate uncontrolled processes
Observe and test conceptual design functionality by modeling to resolve possible production issues
SHORT VOLUME PRODUCTION
Customize fabrication and tailor design to devise an efficient system to reduce overhead and push to market sooner
WHY CLEMSON COMPOSITES
CCC combines deep expertise in every stage of the advanced materials development process with a modular, scalable approach utilizing state-of-the-art infrastructure.
The Center delivers a complete pathway for creating lighter, recyclable, more efficient and economically sustainable technologies through interdisciplinary research, education, contract services, technology transfer and commercial implementation phases.
SPECIALIZED SERVICE AND DESIGN
The 6,500-square-foot center is located on the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) campus and is run by full-time engineers and technicians who specialize in advanced materials and manufacturing research and development.
Sustainability focused engineers who continual research, design, and collaborate with industry partners to deliver innovative ideas and solutions.
FOUNDING DIRECTOR, Dr. Srikanth Pilla is the Robert Patrick Jenkins Endowed Professor of Automotive Engineering and dean’s faculty fellow at Clemson University. He holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and received postdoctoral training from Stanford University.
DR. SRIKANTH PILLA
In addition to private industry experience at SC Johnson and SuGanit Bio-Renewables, Srikanth Pilla serves as a materials and manufacturing consultant to several industries, including OEMs such as BMW, Honda and Firestone, among others.
Pilla’s research is supported by the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Agriculture and NASA, in addition to industry partners such as automotive OEMs and suppliers. His research has created $13.78M of funding.
