CLEMSON COMPOSITES CENTER, (CCC) is where innovation comes to life. Lightweight and advanced materials are crucial to a sustainable and efficient future, and CCC has the tools, expertise and drive to get us there.

WHO WE ARE

Founded in 2015, CCC is a full-spectrum research and development facility with state-of-the-art equipment and infrastructure on the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) campus in Greenville, South Carolina.

By partnering with industry, the Center aims to develop and commercialize cost-effective, sustainable lightweight material technologies from fundamental research to the manufacturing floor.

WHAT WE DO

Capabilities encompass a wide range of applications, from material synthesis and characterization to engineering and manufacturing services.

Ongoing projects run the gamut from fundamental science to translational projects, all driven by industry need for a more sustainable future.

The Center offers application engineering, full-scale prototyping and short-volume production runs for advance composites and polymer components.

Funded by the State of South Carolina, Clemson University, and private industry, the Clemson Composites Center combines deep expertise in every stage of the advanced materials development process with a modular, scalable approach utilizing state-of-the-art infrastructure.

CCC combines deep expertise in every stage of the advanced materials development process with a modular, scalable approach utilizing state-of-the-art infrastructure.

The Center delivers a complete pathway for creating lighter, recyclable, more efficient and economically sustainable technologies through interdisciplinary research, education, contract services, technology transfer and commercial implementation phases.

SPECIALIZED SERVICE AND DESIGN

The 6,500-square-foot center is located on the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) campus and is run by full-time engineers and technicians who specialize in advanced materials and manufacturing research and development.

Ramy Harik

DIRECTOR, Dr. Ramy Harik is the ExxonMobil Employees Endowed Chair at the Clemson Composites Center and a Professor of Automotive Engineering at Clemson University. A Fulbright Alumni, he holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering (B.S./M.S.), Automated Manufacturing (M.S.), and Industrial/Mechanical Engineering (Ph.D.). His expertise lies in Manufacturing, Smart Manufacturing, and Composites Manufacturing.

DR. RAMY HARIK

In addition to serving as an Associate Editor for SME Manufacturing Letters and authored the Introduction to Advanced Manufacturing textbook published by SAE, Ramy Harik is recognized as one of the top 20 influential professors in Smart Manufacturing by SME’s Smart Manufacturing Magazine in 2020, as he has extensive teaching experience globally and has supervised over 30 graduate students and founded research initiatives. In June 2024, Harik received the SC Governor’s Award for Excellence in Scientific Awareness, South Carolina’s highest honor for promoting science education and supporting the future workforce.

Harik’s research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, NASA, Boeing, and numerous other industry partners, totaling over $17 million.
